hei tautoko i te tangata i a ia e anga whakamua ana - supporting individuals to move forward in their daily lives

When considering how best to support a person’s recovery, Comcare’s Community Support workers find themselves involved at the very heart of someone’s living experience. The activities that form part of an individual’s daily life are the focus of this service.

Support Workers assist with areas such as financial management, relationship building with friends and family, taking first steps back to an active life and work, managing the demands of children and a home, developing workable routines around living and healthcare needs.

For others, whose experience of mental illness is severe and involved institutional and community treatment situations, support is required to gain confidence in personal care and household management.

The range of work is broad and is developed through personalized planning based on supporting the individual to use their strengths to overcome barriers to their independence and autonomy.

Comcare is proud that its Community Support Workforce is well trained and brings together formal mental health qualifications and life experience to the positive work they do.

Comcare Community Support Services are available in urban and rural Canterbury locations and in addition offers a specialist wing of the service designed to work with people who need ongoing support to thrive in the community.
